What is SBC?

SBC is a membership and service organisation for businesses based in or doing business in Surbiton and the area immediately around it.

SBC does four main things through and on behalf of its members:

  1. SOCIAL – It’s a social group for business people to meet and relax together.
  2. SUPPORT – We are a channel for business support opportunities – some training, advice or events we coordinate ourselves, some are organised externally.
  3. PLACE – We aim to make Surbiton a better place for doing business. We use our collective voice to shape the infrastructure and regeneration of the Surbiton within Kingston and Greater London.
  4. ACTION – We engage in collective action with local groups, sometimes to help with a community project, sometimes to participate in a special occasion.

Our aims

Our principal aim is to promote a united business community for all Surbiton businesses (offices, retailers and home businesses). SBC will provide the structure for enabling businesses to work together to help make Surbiton a better place for all who live, work, shop and run businesses here.

Every business based in or doing the majority of their business in Surbiton (KT5 and KT6 postcodes) is encouraged to join SBC.

Member businesses may be enterprises with or without premises, home-based businesses or sole traders, but not private persons unless they are sole traders. Branches of multiple-unit businesses are welcome to join if the branch is independently managed in Surbiton. It is not necessary for a business to have its registered office in Surbiton.

Members are organisations not individuals, i.e. a membership fee will cover all individuals working in an organisation.

Member businesses get a space on the SBC website, which can help publicise your business and help with SEO into the bargain.

Member businesses are encouraged to take part in sector driven networking events.

Our activities

We have a monthly free meetup on the second Friday of every month. The venue sometimes varies, so please join and check our meetup.com group for the most up-to-date details.

We usually have a stand at the Surbiton Festival each year in September. We meet local people, learn about new businesses, and get to promote our own businesses too.

We have a weekly online co-working session called “Get Social Media Done”. Most people use this hour to discuss their social media ideas for the upcoming week/month, and then get posting. Others use the hour to work on their businesses, instead of in their businesses.
